SPRING TWIST/AFRO KINKY/MARLEY HAIR
If you’ve ever worn Spring Twists, Afro Kinky, or Marley Hair, here's something you should know:
These styles are made from the exact same synthetic base fiber.
The only difference? Their curl pattern and texture.
So the idea that one can be reused and the other can’t? It's a myth.
Whether it’s Spring Twist, Marley, or Afro Kinky, follow these steps to keep your extensions soft, fresh, and ready for a second round:
1. Always Sleep with a Bonnet or Silk Scarf
Synthetic hair frizzes fast. That constant friction between your pillow and your braids? It’s the number one culprit.
A satin bonnet reduces that friction and preserves the curl pattern, especially for textured styles like Afro Kinky and Marley.
2. Use Lightweight Oil Sparingly
Apply a small amount once or twice a week.
Key word: small. We’re hydrating, not frying plantains.
Too much oil turns your hair into a dust magnet and gives it a shiny, plastic look. Your hair is synthetic it doesn’t absorb oil the way natural hair does.
3. Light Spritz of Leave-In Conditioner
A good leave-in helps maintain the softness and bounce of your curls.
Use a light mist, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. This reduces stiffness and helps your hair feel fresh longer.
4. Snip the Ragged Ends
By Week 2, some strands will start sticking out. No worries.
Just snip away the rough ends with scissors during your maintenance routine. This keeps your braids looking neat without having to take them down.
5. Repeat Steps 1–4 Until Takedown Day
6. Wash Gently After Takedown
Once you uninstall the braids:
Detangle the bundles carefully
Soak in warm (not hot) water, a mild shampoo, and optionally a tablespoon of white vinegar (helps with buildup and odor)
Rinse gently don’t rub or agitate the strands
Squeeze excess water out and air dry flat
7. Snip & Store
Once dry, snip any new stray hairs, gently fluff the curls back into shape, and store them in a breathable bag until you’re ready for the next install.
